 Visit of the U.S. Consul General in Thessaloniki, Jerry Ismail, to Epirus: New prospects for Greek-American relations, trade, and investment

Ioannina, Epirus — A particularly significant visit took place in Epirus by the Consul General of the United States of America in Thessaloniki, Mr. Jerry Ismail, with the aim of further strengthening relations between Epirus and the United States in the fields of economy, investment, exports, education, and public diplomacy.

It is a special honor and personal satisfaction for me, as a Greek-American with roots in Epirus, to accompany the Consul General during his official visits in the region.

The program included meetings with the Mayor of Ioannina, the Regional Governor of Epirus, the President and Administration of the Ioannina Chamber of Commerce, as well as representatives of leading export companies of Epirus and other businesses seeking to expand their presence in the American market.

Particular emphasis was placed on both the opportunities and challenges of increasing Greek exports to the United States, attracting investments, developing strategic partnerships, and promoting Epirus as a dynamic business, agri-food, cultural, and tourism destination.

During the meetings, the successful participation of the Region of Epirus and the Ioannina Chamber of Commerce in the Hermes Expo International in New Jersey, United States, was also highlighted, which in recent years has substantially contributed to the creation of business collaborations, trade contacts, and new opportunities for Greek products from Epirus in the American market.

The program also included a meeting with the Rector of the University of Ioannina, the Metropolitan of Ioannina, a visit to the Municipality of Metsovo and a meeting with the Mayor, as well as a visit to the historic Averoff Winery, an emblematic example of quality, tradition, and extroversion of Epirus.

I believe that this visit, although it constitutes the first visit of a high-ranking American official to the region, marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Epirus and the United States. Through initiatives such as Hermes Expo, Hellenic News of America, and our extensive network of partnerships in the United States, we can create even more opportunities for businesses, universities, local authorities, the Greek diaspora, and Philhellene entrepreneurs and professionals.

Αποτελεί ιδιαίτερη τιμή και προσωπική ικανοποίηση για εμένα, ως Ελληνοαμερικανό με καταγωγή από την Ήπειρο, να συνοδεύσω τον Γενικό Πρόξενο των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών της Αμερικής στη Θεσσαλονίκη, κ. Gerry Ismail, κατά τη διάρκεια των επίσημων επισκέψεών του στην Ήπειρο.

Στο πλαίσιο της επίσκεψης πραγματοποιήθηκαν ιδιαίτερα ουσιαστικές συναντήσεις με τον Δήμαρχο Ιωαννιτών, τον Περιφερειάρχη Ηπείρου, τον Πρόεδρο και τη Διοίκηση του Επιμελητηρίου Ιωαννίνων, καθώς και με εκπροσώπους κορυφαίων επιχειρήσεων της Ηπείρου με εξαγωγική δραστηριότητα στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, αλλά και επιχειρήσεων που επιδιώκουν να διευρύνουν την παρουσία τους στην αμερικανική αγορά.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι τόσο η Περιφέρεια Ηπείρου όσο και το Επιμελητήριο Ιωαννίνων έχουν συμμετάσχει στη Hermes Expo στο New Jersey των ΗΠΑ, αφήνοντας ιδιαίτερα θετικό αποτύπωμα και συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στην ενίσχυση των εμπορικών, επενδυτικών και επιχειρηματικών σχέσεων μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών.

Το πρόγραμμα περιλάμβανε επίσης συνάντηση με τον Σεβασμιώτατο Μητροπολίτη Ιωαννίνων, επίσκεψη στη Δήμαρχο Μετσόβου, καθώς και στο εμβληματικό Οινοποιείο Αβέρωφ, έναν σημαντικό πρεσβευτή της οινικής παράδοσης και της αναπτυξιακής δυναμικής της Ηπείρου.

Η συμμετοχή μου σε αυτή τη σημαντική αποστολή αποτελεί ξεχωριστή τιμή και ενισχύει ακόμη περισσότερο τη δέσμευσή μου να συνεχίσω να εργάζομαι για την προώθηση των ελληνοαμερικανικών σχέσεων, του διαπολιτισμικού διαλόγου, της επιχειρηματικής και ακαδημαϊκής συνεργασίας, καθώς και της δημόσιας διπλωματίας μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην ανάδειξη των δυνατοτήτων και των προοπτικών της Ηπείρου.
