European Film Academy Launches Call for 40th Anniversary Logo Design

European Film Academy Launches Call for 40th Anniversary Logo Design

The European Film Academy is preparing to celebrate a major milestone and is inviting creative talent from across Europe to contribute to the visual identity of its 40th anniversary.

As part of the preparations for the anniversary, the Academy is looking for a special anniversary element to accompany its existing logo, offering designers an opportunity to have their work presented on a major international cultural and cinematic stage.

The initiative is open to freelancers, students and self-taught creatives based in Europe, making it an interesting opportunity not only for established designers but also for emerging talents who want to gain international exposure and add a high-profile cultural project to their portfolio.

The brief focuses on creating an original visual element that can work alongside the existing identities of the European Film Academy and the European Film Awards. The proposal should be flexible enough to work across different formats and applications while maintaining a clear connection with the Academy's established visual identity.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate creativity, originality and a strong understanding of visual communication. The anniversary element should be capable of functioning in different layouts and applications, including digital and printed communication.

The submission is also expected to include the required variations for the Academy's visual identity, including different formats and colour treatments. The objective is to create a distinctive anniversary mark that can be used consistently throughout the Academy's 40th anniversary activities.

An opportunity for emerging European creatives

For designers and visual artists, the initiative represents more than a design competition. Being selected by the European Film Academy would provide an opportunity to associate their work with one of Europe's most recognised institutions dedicated to cinema and European film culture.

The European Film Academy brings together thousands of film professionals from across Europe and has played an important role in promoting European cinema, filmmakers and film culture internationally.

The 40th anniversary therefore represents an important moment in the Academy's history, and the visual identity created for the occasion will become part of the wider communication surrounding this milestone.

Submission deadline

The deadline for submissions is:

25 September 2026

Following the submission period, the proposals will be reviewed and three designs will be shortlisted. The final winner is expected to be announced in late spring or early summer 2027.

The selected designer will receive a €1,500 flat fee for the final delivery of the required assets.

The winner will also receive an invitation to attend the European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin on 15 January 2028, providing an additional opportunity to experience one of the most important events in the European film calendar.

Anonymity during the selection process

An important part of the competition is that submissions will be reviewed anonymously.

Applicants must therefore ensure that their name, personal logo, portfolio information or other identifying details do not appear on the submitted design files or presentation material.

The submission should instead be identified using the required anonymous number system specified by the European Film Academy.

The full requirements, technical conditions and submission instructions are available through the official application form.

A celebration of European cinema

The European Film Academy was established in 1989 following the first European Film Awards and has since developed into a major European network for film professionals.

Its activities include supporting European cinema, promoting European filmmakers and strengthening cultural cooperation across the continent.

The 40th anniversary will be an important occasion to look back at four decades of European cinema while also looking towards the future of the industry.

For emerging designers, the call offers the possibility of becoming part of that story through a creative contribution that could be seen across the Academy's anniversary communications and activities.

The European Film Academy is now inviting creatives across Europe to submit their ideas and demonstrate how they can translate four decades of European film culture into a contemporary visual statement.

Submission deadline: 25 September 2026

e to follow the initiative and provide updates on the shortlisted proposals and the final selection.
