For Filipino visual artist and poet Yelcast (Loriel Castillo), that philosophy is called HABIRONA. Derived from two Filipino words—HABI, meaning to weave, and KORONA, meaning crown—HABIRONA reflects his belief that every individual possesses a unique "crown": their passion. Long before audiences recognized his distinctive fusion of poetry and painting, Yelcast walked a very different path. Trained as an electrical engineer, he successfully passed two Philippine Professional Regulation Commission licensure examinations, even earning the distinction of ranking first in one of them. Yet despite the security and prestige that accompanied his profession, he chose to follow a calling that could not be measured by technical achievements alone. Guided by creativity and an unwavering desire to inspire others, he devoted himself to art full-time, eventually pioneering Visual Poetry in the Philippines—a unique artistic language where poetry, typography, painting, and philosophy converge into a single visual experience.
His journey has since been marked by accomplishments that reflect both artistic excellence and community leadership. He founded VisualPoetry Philippines and Arte Bauan, creating spaces where artists can learn, collaborate, and grow together. He became a three-time Metrobank National Art Competition semifinalist, won First Place in the National On-the-Spot Pastel Competition, reached the finals of several prestigious national painting competitions, and represented the Philippines in international exhibitions, including the XIV Florence Biennale. Yet perhaps his most enduring achievement cannot be displayed on a gallery wall. It is found in the communities he has built, the young artists he has encouraged, and the philosophy he continues to share through every work he creates.

"Ang visual poetry ay nakaugat sa paniniwalang ang sining ay isang wika ng kaluluwa—isang wikang kayang magsabi ng mga katotohanang hindi laging naipapahayag ng pagpipinta kundi ng mga salita. Para sa akin, ang bawat obra ay isang pag-uusap ng visual art at panitikan, kung saan ang bawat kulay ay damdamin at ang bawat pintig ng brush ay may kwento."
"Mostly ng ginagawa kong tula at obra ay nakaugat sa mga karanasan at mga pilosopiya ko sa buhay... mga nababasang libro... mga kwento ng mga nakakasalamuha kong tao... mga aral mula sa kaugalian at kultura. Ipipinta ko lang ito sa ibang perspektibo kasi naniniwala ako na ang ganda ng buhay ay pwedeng makita sa iba't ibang angulo ng buhay... palaging may brighter side sa lahat ng bagay."

Nais kong dumating ang panahon na kapag tiningnan ng mga tao ang aking Visual Poetry, hindi lamang nila makita ang mga kulay at anyo, kundi maramdaman nila ang isang tahimik na paanyaya na magnilay, umunawa, at maging mas mabuting tao."

"Naniniwala ako na ang tunay na halaga ng isang obra ay hindi nasusukat sa presyo, parangal, o sa dami ng taong nakakita rito. Nasusukat ito sa mga pusong nabuksan, sa mga pananaw na nabago, at sa pag-asang naibinhi sa mga taong nawawalan na ng direksyon. Kung may isang obra na makapagpapagaan ng loob ng isang tao o makapagbibigay ng bagong pagtingin sa buhay, sapat na iyong dahilan upang ipagpatuloy ang aking paglikha araw-araw."

"Sa mga susunod na henerasyon ng mga artista at makata, sana ay hindi nila habulin ang kasikatan, kundi ang katotohanan. Huwag silang matakot lumikha mula sa kanilang sugat, pagmamahal, pananampalataya, at mga pangarap, sapagkat doon nagmumula ang sining na may kaluluwa. Ang sining ay hindi lamang paraan ng pagpapahayag ng sarili—ito rin ay pananagutan sa lipunang ating ginagalawan at sa mga taong darating pagkatapos natin... palaging mag-iwan ng makabuluhang bakas."

His commitment to cultural exchange extends far beyond exhibitions. Yelcast served as an Art Ambassador during the inaugural Philippine–Moroccan Art and Culture Residency Program and participated in the first Asian-led Arts and Cultural Expedition at the Javett Art Centre in South Africa. He also became one of the first Filipino artists to complete the Samrit Art Residency Program in Thailand, further expanding the global reach of his artistic vision. Today, his works have been exhibited and appreciated in countries including France, Thailand, Italy, Malaysia, Spain, and Germany, reflecting a creative language that resonates across cultures.
