NICOSIA, CYPRUS — U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus John Breslow has highlighted the importance of trust, friendship and security cooperation between the United States and Cyprus during a special dinner held under the banner of  Freedom250.

In a statement shared by the Ambassador, the gathering celebrated cooperation in security and law enforcement between the two countries, while also marking the 251st anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, founded in 1775.

“Trust and friendship are the bedrock of our partnership.”

Ambassador Breslow emphasized the importance of the professionals who work every day to strengthen the relationship between Washington and Nicosia, recognizing their contribution to a partnership built on mutual confidence, practical cooperation and shared responsibilities.

Strengthening Security Cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean

The event comes amid continued efforts by the United States and Cyprus to deepen bilateral cooperation in defence, security, law enforcement and crisis preparedness. Cyprus occupies a strategically significant position at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, making its international partnerships particularly important for regional stability.

Recent discussions between Ambassador Breslow and Cypriot officials have underscored a shared interest in strengthening security ties and promoting peace and stability throughout the Eastern Mediterranean.

Cooperation between the two countries also includes specialised training and capacity-building initiatives. The jointly established CYCLOPS training centre in Larnaca, for example, supports regional training in areas including border security and other law enforcement capabilities.

Freedom250: A Historic American Milestone

The Freedom250 initiative marks the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Alongside this historic milestone, the dinner recognised the 251st anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps, established on November 10, 1775. The occasion brought attention to the longstanding role of American military and law enforcement personnel in supporting the country's security partnerships.

A partnership built on people

Beyond diplomatic agreements and institutional cooperation, the relationship between the United States and Cyprus depends on the people who maintain professional ties, strengthen mutual understanding and work together to address shared security challenges.

A Shared Commitment to Friendship and Stability

Ambassador Breslow's message placed particular emphasis on the individuals who sustain the U.S.–Cyprus relationship through their daily service. Their contribution reflects the practical value of international cooperation in a region facing complex and evolving security challenges.

As Washington and Nicosia continue to develop their strategic partnership, trust, professional collaboration and enduring friendship remain central to efforts aimed at strengthening regional security and stability.

The Freedom250 dinner served as an opportunity to recognise these commitments while celebrating the historic ties and shared interests connecting the United States and the Republic of Cyprus.
