LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — The LA Indigenous Film Festival is bringing audiences a selection of independent Indigenous filmmaking while highlighting stories, cultures and creative voices from Indigenous communities.
As part of the broader LA Film Festivals family, the festival is designed to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers while also celebrating experienced professionals and established talent within the entertainment industry.
The festival's programming is open to films across genres, with eligibility centered on Indigenous filmmakers, Indigenous participation behind the camera and stories connected to Indigenous culture and heritage.
CELEBRATING INDIGENOUS CINEMA
The LA Indigenous Film Festival focuses on what makes Indigenous filmmaking distinctive, bringing stories and perspectives to audiences in Los Angeles through independent cinema.
The festival seeks to create a meeting point between filmmakers, audiences and the entertainment industry, while giving Indigenous creators an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional screening environment.
Its programming welcomes films of any genre, provided they meet the festival's Indigenous participation or storytelling requirements.
PART OF THE LA FILM FESTIVALS FAMILY
The LA Indigenous Film Festival is an affiliate festival of the LA Film Festivals organization, which has developed a network of independent film festivals in Los Angeles.
The organization began with the LA Comedy Festival in 2001 and expanded with the LA Indie Film Fest in 2007. Its festival family has subsequently grown to include specialized festivals covering a wide range of cinematic genres and communities.
SCREENINGS IN THE HEART OF HOLLYWOOD
LA Film Festivals hosts live screenings at the Let Live Theater in Los Angeles, providing filmmakers with an intimate theatrical environment for presenting their work.
The venue features two theaters with approximately 80 seats each, equipped with laser DLP projectors and JBL sound systems.
The festival describes its screening environment as combining professional presentation quality with the intimate atmosphere of an independent cinema venue in the heart of Hollywood.

WHO CAN SUBMIT?
According to the festival's submission rules, eligible entries must feature Indigenous filmmaking participation and/or Indigenous stories and heritage.
The festival accepts submissions from:
- Indigenous directors
- Indigenous writers
- Projects with a majority Indigenous crew — at least 50%
- Films presenting Indigenous stories, culture or heritage
The festival accepts projects across all genres, subject to its submission requirements.

SUBMISSION RULES
The LA Indigenous Film Festival requires filmmakers to submit their projects through FilmFreeway for consideration.
- Films must satisfy the festival's Indigenous filmmaker, crew or Indigenous storytelling requirements.
- Online screeners must be submitted through FilmFreeway.
- Preview copies must accompany the submission in an accepted format.
- Films must be in English or provided with appropriate subtitles or dubbing unless special arrangements have been made with the festival.
- Selected films grant LA Film Festivals permission to use still images and excerpts of up to two minutes, or the length of the submitted trailer, for promotional purposes.
- Multiple submissions are permitted, but each submission requires a separate entry and fee.
- Submission fees are non-refundable.
- Submitted materials will not be returned.
- Submission does not guarantee that a film will ultimately be selected for screening.
- Exceptions to the festival regulations require authorization by a Festival Director.
SUBMISSION RIGHTS & AUTHORIZATION
The festival's submission agreement provides LA Film Festivals and its authorized parties with permission to use submitted materials, including film excerpts and stills, for festival-related promotional activities.
The agreement also allows the festival to retain a copy of an entry for archival purposes and, where requested, provide a copy to industry professionals for potential opportunities related to distribution or future work.
The festival's terms state that ownership of submitted works remains with the individuals or entities that contributed to the entry.
Filmmakers submitting work are also required to confirm that they have the necessary rights and authorization for the materials submitted and agree to the festival's release, indemnification and other contractual provisions.
